Does anyone know of any device which I can purchase or build which
will jam or interfere with a cellular phone signal for a short
distance, say 50ft??

I assure you my intention is not malicious in nature.

Be advised that if you use such a device in the US you will be subject
to an $11,000 fine from the FCC if you are detected (which is very
likely.) My advice is not to proceed with this "project" of yours.

Buying, selling or using such equipment is absolutely forbidden by the
FCC.

Yes, it might be true that there are regulations against using cellular
jammers, but I don't see the FCC enforcing openly blatant jamming at
resturants, concerts, and sporting events.

So is selling linear amps for CB radios but I can point out a dozen
sites openly doing so. Likewise for Cell phone jammers. The FCC acts on
complaints, rarely do they do a "sweep" for illegal devices. Most people
don't know they are getting jammed, they think it is just a dead spot.
The problem with jammers are that they also block emergency calls in or out.
The bottom line is that if people used their cell phones with a little
respect for the other people(DRIVERS) around them, devices like these
would be unnecessary.
