(grain of salt-I'm new to JME )

when the phone is flipped closed, it triggers either a call to midlet's

pauseApp()
or
destroyApp(boolean)

if the notifyDestroyed() is not called, (on an emulator at least) the
app will not close. similarly with notifyPaused().
If you have a thread separate from the gui thread, it will probrably run
or do what you tell it to do if you handle one or both of these methods.

As new to midlets as I am, I understand that nothing is garaunteed for
every platform.
This is a tough write-once-run-everywhere environment. Proprietartyism,
lockins and lockouts abound, it's full of traps, but sometimes compiling
with my left pinky while standing on my left foot helps overcome that
evil. (how I wish)
