I want to put some pictures jpg on a cell phone, but what is the
maximum area a cell phone covers? Is 640X480 ok? I don't want
cropping, so I would like to know what it is (at least approx)_

That nothing to do with screen size, it's resolution, and you won't get much
in your phone memory if you're saving unreduced 640 x 480 jpegs in it !!
Just make them a small size in terms of Kb by resizing them, forget about
the resolution as that's not really of any concern.
