| As ignorant as this question might sound:
Is the power output of all cell phones today the same? i.e. one watt . ...?
What is the output power?

Nope. Not all phones have the same output power. It's in the
milliwatts, I believe usually 300 mw.

And the power level modulates based on the strength of signal from the
base station. The further away you are from a base station the more power
the phone has to put out to get its signal there, and the faster the
battery is run down.

And if the phone is in an analog only cell, look out. It'll really use
a lot of power, even when in standby. I was quite shocked once when I
went camping and left the phone on not knowing I was in an analog area.
