I have an old Radio Shack CT-301 (brick phone?) handheld from 1989 that
still works! I thought it would be cool to get it activated somehow
cheaply as a novely! I have heard about cloning a cell phone, etc. Is
this legal? Is this difficult? If I can't clone, is my cell carrier
going to be able to even activate an old analog cell phone?

Thanks!

This question has been asked before, to do it cheaply you may want to look
at prepaid plans for tdma/amps phones except tracfone. You would activate a
tdma/amps phone and then switch to the amps only phone, would try to get the
provider to do an esn swap and you program the old phone yourself.

Programing instructions:

Guess you could do the esn clone yourself but that would not be my first
choice. Please ask a lawyer for legal advice, but as long as theft of
service was not your plan I think esn clone would be a civil violation of
your service contract. Don't turn both phones on at the same time and don't
tell the service provider or ask their customer service for help.

Some old analog phones get confused if they get caller id info.

Try calling 611 and asking for the location of a store, this will test the
phone even if it's not activated.
