USB connecting to Sanyo 7400
|
|
| Another Guy 2005-07-30, 2:48 am |
| I have a new USB data cable, bought to connect my Sanyo 7400 to my PC and
then use Bitpm to organise tones, contacts etc
I can't get Bitpm to recognise my phone.
Any suggestions? Other software I could try or anything?
TIA

Questions:
Are the drivers for your USB cable loaded and working?
Does Bitpim support the 7400?
Will other software see your phone?
You might try DataPilot $.

The above advice is free of charge and should be considered worth as
much as you paid for it.

Thanks for the reply, I have installed the USB drivers but don't know how to
see if they are working or not.
Bitpim does support the 7400 but I haven't tried any other software - I
didn't know there was any but will try DataPilot.
Thanks for the help

I know that these questions are a bit stupid but when you've worked
customer support you learn to ask:
Do you have the correct cable for the phone?
Do you have the correct drivers for the cable?
Check the DataPilot website, it has a table for cables and phones.
http://www.datapilot.com/shop/sanyo7400.htm
I assume that you are using windoze, check the device manager and see if
there is a question mark by the cable, it should show up as a com/lpt
port. You may have to change the port number.
Bitpim takes awhile to read my VX3200 but reads my SCP7300 very quickly.
BUT- I loaded the sanyo modem drivers for the phone.
There are a handful of free-ware/share ware that should work with most
phones. If you look hard enough, you even might find a few bootleg
copies of DataPilot. But buy the product, that way you can get updates
etc... yada, yada, yada
I got better results with Bitpim than DataPilot.

Yes to the above - I believe my cable and drivers are right - I got the
drivers from Sanyo.
In device manager, and whenever I plug the phone in, it is referred to as a
"Data Interface", rather than a phone. I go thru the rigmarole of pointing
to the folder where the drivers are, to install this new hardware, and it
says that it cannot install it as it cannot find the right hardware.
I d/l'd a copy of DataPilot but it doesn't support the 7400, at least my
version doesn't.

Hmmm, got me. But it sounds like a driver issue.
When I plug my Sanyo in it comes up as a Sanyo USB modem, course I
loaded those drivers. It's cable is USB straight through, with no little
voltage level converter in line. If the phone is not plugged in the
cable does not show in the device mgr.
But the LG cable has a voltage converter mid-line and uses a "Prolific
USB-to-serial comm port" driver. This driver shows up under the Ports
section of the device mgr. It works better when set to any comm port
above comm 2.
Both are Future dial cables purchased at RadioShack.
Good Luck!
Maybe someone else out there knows something......
