Hello guys,
I want to more on why UMTS has more data rate and subscriber capacity
compared to EDGE.

1. GPRS is faster to GSM because 4 time slots are grouped and Modulation
schemes
2. EDGE is faster to GPRS because of Incremental Redundancy and puncturing
scheme which enables more data to be send.
3. UMTS is faster compared to EDGE and CDMA because .. ( IP being used)
but how is more data rates are achieved?

Please give me all the answers and good links. thank you.

UMTS is CDMA

There is difference. UMTS is W_CDMA, where as CDMA is qualcom proprietary
once on similar technology like GSM, GPRS. UMTS converges 3G technologies
to CDMA technologies.

My question is about justification of data rates of UMTS. taking
convolution codings, Eb/No SNR ratios, FDD technologies. More mathematical
derivations. Looking for answers.

You should compare UMTS w_cdma with 3x-CDMA for the same bandwidth. For the
same bandwidth, they should be the same.

But my question is justification of theooritical and practical data rates
of UMTS.Explanation of RAT techonology in combination with FDD, SNR
ratios, bandwidth etc. At present i am looking only UMTS vs EDGE as it is
logical upgradation. 3x-CDMA is totally different technology altogether
and though good and know the differences, but basics first. ANY Answers
please as i need for my paper, links are welcome. Help me out with
detailed answers. Thanks in advance -Anand
