These shops minimise their stock holding costs to near
zero, cannot demo any phone, use * to bluff customers
they can, i.e. waste customers' time.

If customers Didn't steal so damn much you may see a few real
phones on display! If they had put say an Iphone or a Motorola Razr or
Slvr on open display they would be swiped in a New York Second!
I can empaphize to a point of wanting to try the real thing
before you buy. However, No store is going to put the real deal out on
the open floor to be manhandled by people with nerfarious motives. Yes,
perhaps the phones could be in the display case and taken outi, by
store staff, when a legitimate customer wants to see the real deal.
As for minimizing their stock holding costs... You know jack
about sales do you? The inventory is on consignment type arrangement
with so many products allocated by the dealers suppliers not the
dealer themselves... UNLESS.... they are an independent dealer who has
the room to hold lots of product. Then he would warehouse it. However,
most dealers today use JIT or Just In Time systems as it means no or
little warehousing. Warehousing is EXPENSIVE! JIT allows them to order
what is need WHEN it is needed. Its not perfect as there has been
shortages of product, Ie: Nintendo Wii, but it is certainly better
than having lots of a product sitting in some warehouse of some tiny
store that isn't moving fast enough.
