check target i think they have a good deal on nokia 6010 $39 that's
included the simcard and all you have to do is activate the simcard by
using a touch tone phone.
i forgot! that is t-mo prepaid

It very much depend on in which country you're in!!!

even roaming. Anything better than that?

but check the coverage area of net10 they are very new and not to much
coverage in the u.s.
but if you think that you get a good signal in your place and not
traveling alot, i think net10 is the right for you.
but if you travel alot, go for cingular they have 10cents nights and
weekend.

Net10 requires you add about a $30 card per month, even though the minutes
roll over from month to month.
Net10 is a new division of same company that owns TracFone.
The good news is Net10 airtime cards are readily available at Wal-Mart, most
supermarkets, Kmart, Target, and Eckerds/CVS/Walgreen's pharmacies. ... but
so are Simple Freedom, Beyond Wireless, TracFone, T-Mobile, Virgin airtime
cards.
Phones by these same brands are readily available at Wal-Mart, Target,
Pharmacies, some supermarkets, etc.
If you are willing to pay $30/month for prepaid, you should consider a
postpaid plan with one of the major carriers, Cingular, Verizon, etc. Post
paid plans usually require a one or two year contract.
The simple thing to remember: If you plan to chat more that 30 minutes a
month, then you will probably be better off with a post paid plan, including
a contract to give you the best rate per minute.
There is something to be said for the *convenience* and *availability* of
prepaid cellphone airtime cards at several locations when in a rush, and not
close to the internet, or a landline telephone.
TracFone GSM models now allow you to purchase airtime cards, then enter the
number off the card directly into the phone for adding airtime. This saves
the step of having to call the toll free number or going to www.tracfone.com
website to add minutes as normal.
The question people ask when they post to the newsgroups is: Which one is
the best? That is like asking which model car is the best? It all
depends on how you plan to use the cellphone.

It's more complicated than just the best price per minute. You have to
look at the monthly minimums, the requirements to top-up how many days, etc.
I.e. I'd never sign up for something like Net10, since you have to pay
$30 per month minimum. I'm paying around $32 now on Verizon, for much
more time than I'd get on Net10.
You also have to look at coverage, based on where you will use the
phone. I.e., several prepaid carries use the Sprint network (Virgin,
STI) but don't allow roaming, so you're out of luck when you go out in
the boondocks. All of the GSM prepaid carriers are unacceptable out in
the boondocks, you need a carrier with AMPS roaming, which limits you to
TDMA or CDMA carriers.
If you can live with T-Mobile's coverage, they are about the best deal
in prepaid, since for $100 you get 1000 minutes and you don't have to
top up more than once a year.
For good coverage, look at BeyondWireless, Locus Platinum, or Viva.

Roaming is $.99/minute on Locus and Viva, 4x the regular rate on Beyond

| About 2 months ago I bought a Nokia 6010 from TMobile for about $53 and
they threw in 150 minutes. Early this month I added 1000 more minutes
for $106. My total cost is about $160 for ~13 months of service, or
about $12 per month for 88 minutes per month (on average.) I thought
this was as good a deal as any other company I found, for ME.
On the downside, the TMobile prepaid network is poor in rural areas, but
it seems like all big cities are covered. Since I spend 99.9% of my
time in my home city, I can accept this limitation.
Alternatively, I decided to buy a present for a friend. I found a
Tracfone - Nokia 1100 for ~$22 at a local department store. With
Tracfone's refer-a-friend program, I was able to give the phone with 2
hours of talk time which does not expire for 4 months. (Thanks Josh.) I
thought this was a nice inexpensive present for my friend to try out
cell phone service. With further referrals, he can get more free time
too, or buy time if he chooses, or simply abandon the service. My friend
enjoyed the gift very much.
Walmart had a large selection of prepaid plans to look at. The local
Best Buy also had 3 prepaid phone plans with a good display of their
costs. The local mall has kiosks from some of the major companies. Do
some homework and decide what is best for you.

| We all define "Best" differently. Currently, the "Best" deal is
www.stimobile.com. They sell a phone for $89 and give you a $89 rebate.
Minutes are only .12/Peak, .10/Off peak. Refill cards don't expire and the
only requirement is using the phone every 60 days. If you don't need a lot
of minutes, you can buy their $10 card and it can last you years. The phone
is shipped from www.cheapphonecards.com with an initial $10 refill.
If you make a few calls a month, there is nothing cheaper. They use the
Sprint network, so check its availability where you are, and there is no
roaming available.
The second best deal is T-Mobile...buy their $100 card and it's good for a
year and can be refilled for as little as $10 a year thereafter and all
calls are .10/min. New phones are as little as $40.
If you can get an old AT&T TDMA phone, Beyond Wireless is also a good
choice, but the network is slowly deteriorating.
