Author No network on Ericsson A2218z

2005-07-16, 10:55 pm

Hi,

I have an Ericsson A2218z cell phone and a prepaid Cingular account. I've
had it and used it with no problems for several years. All of a sudden I
can no longer connect to the network. The signal bars are all dead flat and
the display reads "No network." But the stored information, such as my
phone numbers, is still there and all the menu functions act normally. The
battery is full charged and Cingular customer service says there are no
reported problems with the network in my area (which is downtown Charleston,
SC).

Ericsson support says I might need a new SIM card.

I have a few questions, if you all don't mind: Would it just be cheaper to
buy a new phone? And will any brand of phone work with Cingular? And
finally what would I need to do to insure that I keep my current number?

Thanks for any ideas,

Nevermind. I think I now have the answers I need. My SIM card is probably
fried and I need to buy another one for about 25 bucks, then insert it in
the place of the old fried one.

Thanks to those of you who had the desire to help me out but just hadn't
gotten around to it yet. Of course, if you can think of something I've
missed, I'd be glad to know.

For anybody who cares, I was wrong. The SIM card was good but the phone was
bad. So I spent 117 dollars retail on a Nokia and let the saleman insert
the card into it (after having inserted it in his own phone to determine it
was good).

Now I'm home charging it up for the first time. Not that anybody here
cares; but, Hell, I want to finish up my Gestalt.
