Anyone tried Uniden ELBT595 bluetooth with cellular link?
|
|
|
| just wonder if anyone has used this ...reviews are hot&cold but seemingly this is a solution to someone who wants a new cordless for the house and may wish to get rid of their landline altogether at some later date which would let you use this fone to dis
tribute your cellular service via BT throughout all the wireless handsets ...some complain screen is small, some complain plastic is cheap, some complain hinge is flimsy, some say battery life isn't that great, some say it's too expensive, others are quit
e positive about it.

| The only bluetooth link is between the cell phone and the base unit. The
link between the base unit and the handheld phones is through standard
5.8ghz wireless. So, the cellphone must be positioned in fairly close
proximity to the base unit (I believe they recommend within 15'), and you'll
need to have both the base unit and the cellphone in an area of the house
where you get good reception on the cellphone - I'm in a rural area and only
get a good look at the cell tower from one particular side of the house. I
have two extra handhelds with my system. I am able to connect the handhelds
to the base unit from anywhere in my yard (appx 3/4 acre), but not much
beyond. Battery life does not seem unreasonable, but I have not tried to
talk for long periods from our in the yard - mostly from within the house.
I have no objections to the screen size, but agree that the handsets feel a
little on the cheap side - nice design, but they don't weigh what other
portable phones weigh. This may be because they use a cellphone-type
battery, which doesn't weigh anything near what AAs or battery packs in most
portable phones weigh so you don't have the heft of most portables. Voice
quality seems to be excellent in my system, with sufficient volume in all
the units. This phone does have a lot of features, and programmability is
no problem. Downer is that sending the phone book from one unit to another
only transfers the numbers and names but not any other information - such as
user groups, etc. But, you can store all that information on your computer
and transfer it all through a USB connection. All things considered, I'm
quite pleased with the system... it's the only thing on the market at an
affordable price that does what it does!! So, until something better comes
along I'll have to say that I'll stick with it and enjoy the features.

| I would like to say that Eds evaluation is pretty much right on with my
experience. I have the ELB T595 with Base, a second Unit with Charger only
and 3 of the TCX440 color handsets. The units are not built like a
"ruggedized" device but I will clearly say that I am not easy on hardware
and my personal ELBT595 Handset that use all over the house has stood up
well. No issues, no cracks no sprung hinges. I did have a TCX440 handset
develop a NO POWER ON issue and was quite impressed with Unidens customer
service. Was ZERO hassle and fast replacement.
The phone performs like it is supposed to, and does all of the Bluetooth
features easily. I have never had any issues Pairing, and I do have 2
separate Bluetooth phones with different numbers PAIRED to the system. I
recommend this phone without reservation. The Range is as described and so
is the battery life.
BTW, my Mom who is 72 uses this phone system everyday and swears by it. She
will not use anything else and we have a few regular phones in the house.

Yep, same here. The only downside is the slight pause that's added at the
beginning of a call as the base makes it's connection with the cell phone.
Otherwise it's been quite handy to use. That and you can mix/match from the
other uniden 5.8ghz digital handsets. I've got some 440 units as I like the
'stalk type' of handset better for uses in places like the kitchen.
Although I *do* wish they had a decent way to wall mount a cradle for one of
these.

Absolutely. There are several manufacturers, Olympia, VTECH along with
Uniden that have adopted this crazy "Shelf Like Bracket" where they simply
make it so you mount the desk top base sitting out from the wall. While
maybe easy for them, it is rediculous , IMHO, for the end user.
And I wanted to elaborate in my first post that Uniden does allow the
intermixing of MOST (Be careful most doesn't mean all) models of their 5.8
Ghz models. You really dont need (or want to pay for) all Bluetooth Flip
Phones to work with this system. You can get many of the Units, like the
440, on Ebay for $35 -$45 if you are a sharp buyer.
