Does anyone know if its possible to buy a unit that can be hooked up to a
stereo, so that someone can have an earpiece and listen to it nearby through
the earpiece.

When you say "earpiece" I assume you mean either dual earpieces or indeed
headphones considering that stereo is involved.
Companies have released such products, including Creative (and Logitech I
believe).

Actually I was looking for just a small earpiece, similar to that used with
a mobile phone, not headphones.
