Probably not intentional.

My old TDMA phones all turn on with the AT&T logo (probably permanently
burned into the chip), but then say Cingular once the standby screen comes
on. As the AT&T equipment is used up and phased out, this will not happen.

Frankly, I'd prefer the AT&T name on my phone, rather than Cingular's . . .
