Author Will iPhone play realmedia?

Does the iPhone play Realmedia streams?

Do you download Realplayer or is it in a native media player like
Media Player in the Nokia N800?

The reason I ask is I just bought a Nokia N800 Linux Internet
tablet and, today, I found Orb, free from Nokia.
http://corp.orb.com/n800/
It installs media conversion and Realmedia streaming software on
your WinXP/Vista mainframe to stream
video/audio/documents/pictures to your handheld's media player,
if it supports Realmedia playback.

I'm watching a DivX 5.1 rock concert on my Nokia N800 at
"acceptable" resolution, great frame rate, in stereo from my
cable broadbanded WinXP box that has a many TB RAID array storage
on it. The Orb software does a really nice conversion of the
DivX video into Realvideo streaming to the little Linux box. The
N800 also connects via DUN and OBEX to my Alltel Moto E815 for
data away from a wifi hotspot. Even slower on Sellular, the Orb
stream runs great!

If the iPhone will play Realmedia, this should also let you
stream your own MP3/videos/documents/pictures to the iPhone over
ATT...which may get you in hot water if you use it too much as I
think streaming is verboten. But, it's always easier to get
forgiveness than permission...(c;

RealMedia is the worst proprietary video delivery service ever foisted
on us.
Why even bother?

Quicktime actually works. Always has. Real Media stumbled for years with
a crappy product. I was amazed that they got so many on board, but they
obviously worked a lot of deals.

You beat me to it....Quicktime really sucks.

The Realvideo feed to the Nokia N800's Linux media player works
very well and looks astonishingly good on the little 4+ inch
display on full screen at the highest rate.

Real looks awful at the slower rates.

My question was premature when I noticed you can use other
transmission formats from Orb to the remote device. I streamed
audio and video all day from my cable broadband Orb server to the
Nokia N800 on wifi on a yacht at the marina. Her captain was so
impressed he's ordered one...(c;

I can even tell Orb to address my webcam from anywhere and feed
its output to the Realmedia converter to feed the little Nokia in
my hand.

But, I haven't seen my question answered, yet, so I'll read the
other post.

Thanks.

Yep QuickTime works. If you like it sucking up ram. Of course now with
ITunes's you must Install both for the other to work.

Why should I have to install ITunes to get QuickTime. Total BS.

Because it's all about the content. I hate using Real with a passion,
but if I want to watch/listen to a stream that's only offered in Real, I
put up with it. (I prety much feel the same way about Quicktime!)

It's kind of like an AM oldies station I used to listen to in Providence.
Sure AM sounds like crap compared to FM, but WICE-550 played the songs I
wanted to hear, so I put up with the static and low-fidelity.

NOPE just click the other download box for Quicktime by itself,
however if you have an iPhone, then you need both.

Some time back you never needed to Install Itunes to get Quicktime. So why
do you have to Install both ?

I'm a Mac user, but loaded up VPC to check this out.

You have the choice to download it with or without. You don't have to
install both.

Ok, If you Install ITunes, It must Install QuickTime. I loaded some mp3
songs for a friend into his iPod a few weeks ago and found out that ITunes
needs to install QuickTime. Which never did in the past.
