Author dirtyhippo charge: a scam?

I just want to ask around if you also have been charged for dirtyhippo
content without using the service.

I called Cingular in Feburary to turn off all internet and text
messaging options on my phones. Obviously they did it. However,
recently I found two months in a row I got a $9.99 charge for
dirtyhippo content. I called the customer services and asked them to
removed the charge. What surprised me was the customer representative
told me the text messaging was on my phones. I have to spend a lot of
time waiting for her to remove the text messaging service and the
charges (She was really reluctant to remove the charges ). I suggested
to her it could be some kind of scam, but she flatly denied it. I
wonder if Cingular is part of the scam.

I don't think Cingular is part of any scam. Cingular's reluctance to
remove the text messaging feature from your account is likely because
they just can't imagine they have a client who doesn't want it. I mean,
doesn't everyone want to stay in constant contact with everyone else?
They must think we're out of our minds! Not that there's anything wrong
with that.

I just could not explain why the customer representative tried so hard
to defend the charge as to claiming the dirtyhippo charge is for text
messaging. I find from the web that it is ringtone download service.
If it is not a scam how could my phones charged for ringtone download
while their data service is terminated.

It's more likely a billing snafu. Somebody screwed up trying to
straighten out someone elses bill. Maybe, that someone else denied a
part of their bill, and a CSR just transferred the small charge to yours
(or anyone's), hoping you wouldn't notice. The latter is unlikely
because that sort of shenanigan generates loads of complaints.
