Problem getting incoming calls..

| I can dial out fine, however anybody who tries to make a call to my
phone gets "your call cannot be completed as dialed.. message
2-M-L-W-6"
It doesn't even snap to voice mail or anything -- but rather acts as if
I don't exist.
I tried calling Cingular CS to see what the deal was, and they gave me
the "replace battery, reseat SIM, reboot" rounadround, then 20 minutes
later they blamed it on the performance of a nearby tower. Of course,
my work associate could get a signal from the exact same physical
location, no problem.
We tried putting his SIM in my phone, worked fine.. so it's not my
hardware that's having problems. Any idea what might be going on?
The other thing that I should probably mention is that my home area
code is in Madison, WI -- I'm now living in Chicago. I don't know if a
problem with the system up in WI would have an effect on me or not.

What kind of phone do you have? Assuming it's GSM, you have the ability
to configure many call forward options. For some reason, calls may not
be forwarding to your phone.

I had this happen a few years ago with t-mobile. I was a Pennsylvania
customer but when I was in NYC, 9 out of 10 incoming calls would
either just get dead air or similar message.
This turned out to be a backhaul problem. The call would come into
the switch in PA but there wasn't enough data capacity in their
internal routing to get the call to me in NY.
It was not an overnight problem and took time to fix because it was a
network upgrade.
It your case it sounds like it may be some sort of routing problem
where your call cannot find you. Similar problem but probably
different cause. Should be easier to fix if you can get in touch with
the right people, but that's the hard part.

Unfortunately, have a feeling this probably has something to do with it.
How long has it been since you've been in Madison?
