Author Cingular coverage in greater NY area?
Dr. Joel M. Hoffman

Because I travel internationally so frequently, I have a GSM phone.
However, last time I checked (back when T-mobile was the only GSM game
in town), GSM service in New York City was unreliable, and in the
suburbs it was practically non existant. (By contrast, I have VZW
coverage almost everywhere.)

Can someone who actually has Cingular service in the NY area comment
on coverage and reliability?

Thanks.

-Joel

Dr. Hoffman:

Same thing here in much smaller, little in the way of high-rise buildings,
Sarasota, FL.

Cingular has advised that their trunks are at capacity. What is confusing
here is that to me trunks speak to cell-to-land-line calls, not
cell-to-cell. Problems here are primarily cell-to-cell.

Additionally, for whatever reason, 800 (and related nbrs) calls are
difficult to make - Call Failed appearing all too often.

I live in the Albany area, and have been down to the city on the train,
and in car, and have no problems except in the mountains but thats
spotty. Overall, Cingular Rocks , dont forget now that you CANNOT
blame the signal all on the carrier, the phone also has allot to do
with it also.

I also ATV allot in the Hunter mountain area and let me tell you, 5
bars all the time, with a Moto V551 phone, Verizon, NOTHING,
Nextel=Dont know they have put more towers up but cannot confirm
anything and wont guess at it either
