| My Treo 600 is on its last legs. I want to upgrade, but I can't decide
between (a) staying with Cingular and getting a Treo 650, or (b)
Switching to Sprint or Verizon and getting a Treo 700.
I'm told that Sprint's data speed and voice quality are better, but I'm
worried that if I take a chance and switch to a whole new provider I
won't get the same coverage. I'm also told that Sprint phones won't
work outside the US since they aren't on the GSM network.
When will Cingular have the Treo 700? I'd hate to upgrade to the 650
and then find out that the 700 is available a month later. I've called
their sales people, but they couldn't give me any answer.
Thanks.

| It is my understanding that Cingular and Palm are to announce two new GSM
based telephones shortly (by mid-Nov). One is the Treo 680 (code named
Outrider) which is supposed to be a low cost and limited device. The other
is projected to be the Treo 750 (code name Nitro) which is a Palm OS device
similar to the Treo 700p but (a) GSM based; (b) Bluetooth 1.2 enabled; and
(c) GPRS/Edge/UMTS/HSDPA (high speed data on a 3G (third generation) network
capable (although it is rumored that the HSDPA must be enabled by a firmware
upgrade). No price has been announced for the 680 but current guesstimates
put it at the $199 range with the 750 at $50 with a new 2-year contract or
$599 for an "unlocked" system.
