Has anyone officially had their Unlimited MediaNet Service terminated for
tethering their WAP\EDGE enabled cellphone (Like a RAZR V3) to laptop, or
does Cingular just ignore it?

I haven't heard of any such case. That said, I don't think it would be
terribly smart to max it out; e.g., by running a public server.

I just tried to connect a Windows XP laptop tethered to my V180 using
Cingular Communication Manager. I have the MediaNet 1MB plan.

Didn't work: "Error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated."

It took about 1.5 hours for Cingular tech support to tell me that it
wouldn't work because I had MediaNet instead of DataConnect. They were
gracious enough to allow me to test that by temporarily enabling
DataConnect (it started connecting), then disabling it again while I
decide whether I want to burn $20 / mo. (the minimum, for 5MB / mo.
data transfer) instead of $5 / mo.

BTW, I tried the Communications Manager after I was unable to connect
to my ISP using the drivers from:

http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip

Seems like I ought to be able to at least dial my ISP without having
to pay @20 / mo. extra, but it wasn't obvious how to do it.

That's probably because you didn't reconfigure it for MEdia Net, as described
in the MEdia configuration companion I wrote for the FAQ below. (CCM is
configured for Data Connect by default.)

The dialer profiles from the Cingular Connection Manager are for the fully
featured "Laptop Connect" packages, and don't work for the minimalist WAP
"Media Net" account. Adjust the phone number to *99#, set the Username to
WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM, and the password to CINGULAR1.

You're still faced with spending $20 per month for the Unlimited MediaNet
account. The MediaBasic or MediaWorks bundles both have small data amounts
included and then go to $0.01 per KB, which can add up quickly, but you
really need to judge your own data needs. Maybe $9.95 per month for a
while, with overage charges once every six months, would work out better
than $19.95 per month that you don't use.

That $0.01 per KB is such a high number, though. I was misbilled $107.00
in one month, and that was only a partial month, when my unlimited plan was
dropped by them. They credited the amount, but it was a nice wake up call.
