| Cingular's online store has been updated to include Cingular's first

That should be HSDPA (not HSPDA).

According to the Cingular release below: "Cingular Video requires a $19.99
MEdia Net Unlimited data package." No mention of MEdia Basic. (The current
MEdia Works isn't the same as MEdia Net Unlimited or the old MEdia Works
Unlimited -- it only includes 5 MB of MEdia Net data.)

Nokia 6282 and LG CU500. This indicates Nokia has upgraded the 6282 to include
WCDMA 850 and 1900 for Cingular. LG has not shown off the CU500 before and
little is known about this new handset."

regarding quad band... that's because those three you cite are all GSM
bands (the 1800 is Euro + elsewhere) while the WCDMA band licensed in
the USA is 1900 (Europe is like 2100mhz). so that's how they get
"quad band" out of it.

There's no WCDMA 850 approved in the US as far as I know. I can tell
you that Cingular's not using it.

Bands aren't licensed in the USA by technology -- Cingular is free to use
WCDMA on any of its licensed spectrum.

maybe you should familiarize yourself with some of the FCC's spectrum
auctions. The FCC has always been very careful in determining what
type of emissions a licensed entity can transmit--WCDMA is no
exception. Without it, we'd have the Wild West Frontier when it comes
to spectrum.

Maybe we should have the "Wild West". Aside from the economic implications
(monopolization, slow technological progress), I can imagine the FCC
trying to respond to an incident where terrorists take out huge segments
of the cellular network w/ cheap jamming equipment.

FCC Chairman: "Well, we have regulations against that kind of use,
Senator. What more can I say?".
