Treo 650 only recognizes THB Car Kit about 1 out of 10 times

I recently bought the THBBury Comfort Plus Car Kit for my Cingular Treo 650.
I installed the kit myself.

My problem is that the phone only "recognizes" that it's in the cradle about
one out of every ten insertions. The phone always starts charging the
battery, but to enable the speaker and microphone, I have to shut and release
the cradle many times. Once the phone finally goes into the "hands-free"
mode, the display stays illuminated, and the speaker and microphone work as
they should and it stays that way until I remove the phone from the cradle.

The phone connector is clean and undamaged, as is the cradle connector.

The phone's software is Treo650-1.17.CNG, firmware is 01.51, THBKit Software
is v. 1.0.

Anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?
