Caller ID Problem with Bellsouth
|
|
|
| I contacted Cingular because recently whenever I call home (or other local
numbers) or other Cingular customers call me at home, the Caller ID shows
"Out of Area" as the caller name.
I contacted Cingular. They told me that this was a known issue with
Bellsouth land-line phones, and that I should contact them. Cingular was
providing all the information, Bellsouth was just not processing it
correctly.
I contacted Bellsouth (via email). This was their reply:
For the majority of calls you receive from a local telephone number, you
should still be receiving the caller's name and telephone number. For
certain wireless calls placed to landline telephones; however, the caller's
name had not previously been available. Recently, however, BellSouth
conducted a short trial with a supplier to obtain and deliver the calling
name along with the telephone number for such wireless calls. The trial
ended and those wireless calls that delivered both the name and number
during the trial will now go back to delivering only the number.
All I know is that up until a few weeks ago, this was not a problem. (And
I've been with Cingular for close to 2 years now.)
Anyone know anything more about this?

| Tony, Don't know much more than you do. But I'm in the same boat. Both the
GF and I have Cingular and I had gotten them to change the name on her phone
to reflect her name insead of mine, when she calls local numbers. About 2-3
weeks ago, It started showing up as Wirless caller and just showing the
number.
I didn't bother pursuing it, as I figured with the pending merger of ATT and
Bellsouth, they were just prepping everything for the merger and that means
a change to the systems
