SlingPlayer Mobile and 8125
|
|
|
| Is anyone using a Cingular 8125 and SlingPlayer Mobile? I have it installed
and it works great over an 802.11x network but is very slow when going over
the Cingular network. Has anyone figured out a way to watch SlingPlayer
Mobile over the Cingular network?
TIA
MC

Cingular's system sucks. It will not handle data fast enough for you to
watch video from the Slingbox.
If you want it to work, you need a REAL high-speed network (see Verizon
EVDO).
I do watch TV from a slingbox on both my Samsung PDA (I-730) and a Verizon
KPC-650 Datacard
in a laptop.I get a constant 500-600K of data, thats all I have left at home
as I am restricted to 768K uplink
and have other stuff running all the time.
Bottom line.....Cingular is like shitting thru a sock.....
Verizon is like a digital rocket.......
Try a Verizon EVDo phone or datacard...FREE for 14 days.

Cingular UMTS/HSDPA is comparable to EV-DO.

John...in the greater Los Angeles area...it's a race between a turtle and a
hare....
Cingular's UMTS is a joke..complete joke....HSDPA didn't even rear its silly
head....
Sorry....but there is no comparison between Cingular and Verizon's data
speed.
Cingular IS cheaper and slow..Verizon is more $$$ but works very well
*CONSISTENTLY*

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, UMTS and HSDPA are very good.

Yet first generation HSDPA was supposed to be about the same as EV-DO,
yet all the benchmark test show HSDPA to be significantly slower. This
is very strange since the EV-DO network is much more heavily used.

The data plans are both $60 per month.

Actually better.

No real benchmarks yet, only the initial deployment, which wasn't any
better for EV-DO.

HSDPA is newer.

Cingular has unlimited data for $20/month.
