Hi:

I honestly appreciate any assistance provided.

I own a SLVR L7 and installed QuickIM so I can send Instant Messages without
taking the SMS hit. I'm also using Opera Mini (working fine) and Flurry
Mail also working just fine. When I run QuickIM and try to connect to the
server I get this message:

Network Error
Err:javax.microedition.io.Connector.socket was denied Try again using
default proxy servers?

When I say "yes" I get this message:

Network Error
Err:javax.microedition.io.Connector.socket was denied.

Now, I searched the net and found some text about the phone or cingular is
using WAP over GPRS. What does this mean exactly (a protocol over a
protocol?) What do I do about this?

I greatly appreciate any assistance. We have 4 phones and I am trying to
configure my phone and then the others. Right now I have unlimited access
for internet use on my phone.

Bob

Bob

In order to make this work you need to use the isp.cingular APN. You could
try and program that in but if you don't have some type of data plan that
provisions this APN you are not going to get it to work. There are data
connect plans from 19.99 on up. You might try the one they released
recently for smart phones. It is unlimited usage and it is 19.99 AND it
will provision the isp.cingular APN. It is a smart phone plan so just tell
the rep you need the unlimited smart phone plan.

Good Luck!

Hi Cliff:

I reviewed the smart phone plan and I'm going to research it further. It
seems that it is for data only so for instant messaging and text messaging I
would have to use a j2me application that doesn't use SMS. Right? I think
I'm beginning to understand.

Thanks.

Bob

Yes - You are correct - there are no plans that will provision the
isp.cingular APN and give you any Text Messaging. You can certainly add
those separately. If the IM program uses TM to send/receive the messages
rather than the internet then you can forget the data plans and just get a
mega-monster-super-duper Text plan or whatever they call the plan with 3000
messages.

It sounds like the remote server is denying your connection. Is
authentication required?

Hi:

Through research I discovered I nedd to have a data plan instead of the plan
I have now.
