| hello
what is a good data card to use on a cingular account.
what kind of connect rates can I expect in the city and out off the beaten
path. I have been told if I can connect on my cell phone I can get a data
connection.
just looking for information about cingular and data connections.
thanks

I just got the Sierra Wireless AirCard 860. I chose it mainly because
I could use the Sierra Wireless AirCard 860 Watcher program to make the
connection. I really dislike Cingular Connection Manager. With the
Watcher program, you can lock onto HSDPA or EDGE. With Connection
Manager, it just locks on to the strongest signal (I am told).
Connection Manager often conflicts with antivirus software, not
allowing you to download POP3 email, unless you uninstall the
ByteMobile client from it (at least it does offer this option). The
Option GT Max is a potentially faster card than the AirCard 860, but
with the Option GT Max you are stuck with Connection Manager. I am
reading that a Novatel card is coming out that will allow you to use
Novatel's software. I don't know much else about it.
Until recently I was using a Sony Ericsson GC83 EDGE card that worked
well with Sony Ericsson's Wireless Manager. You cannot use the new
faster HSDPA service with it though. You can buy these cards cheap on
ebay I have heard.
Whatever you get, be sure and sign up for the "Unlimited" data service.
Anything less, and you'll likely be hit with a very large bill one of
these days.
