| hi,
I have a cingular prepaid phone. Can I switch it to another non-prepaid
plan or other carrier without changing this phone?
Thanks.

| The OP asked if he could switch to a NON-PREPAID plan. YES it just
requires removing the SIM or I'm pretty sure that Cingular will now
allow you to keep the same number and flip to a POST PAID plan. Of
course you need to qualify with credit. I woudl suggest that if you do
sign up with a post paid plan and if they are giving away a FREE phone
take the free phone and move the SIM card to your existing phone that
way you will have a back up phone if you should lose or break your
existing phone. Cingular or any other carrier will not give you a FREE
or inexpensive replacement phone while you are still under a contract
even if you bring your own phone to start up service. If you want to
use your existing phone with another carrier other than Cingular then
the only other option would be to have the phone unlocked and use on
T-Mobile since they are the only national GSM carrier.

The phone has nothing to do with your plan, the SIM does. You just have to
head to Cingular and change it and they will either switch the plan or switch
the SIM with a new plan on it. As far as another carrier goes, you have to
make sure that your phone is not locked to your carrier.
