can't connect my mobile to my phone

| I'm sure this has been asked a million and 2 times but...
.... I bought a USB data cable for my Sony Eriksson K300I, installed the
software that came with it, hooked up the phone to the cable plugged it
in the USB, AND nothing happened, I tried lots of different things, it
knows the phone is there, but it wont do anything with it! What can I
do?

Completely uninstall. Then reinstall the software *before* attaching
the phone.
