In troubleshooting Bluetooth problems for a client, I found big
differences in seemingly similar Bluetooth devices, both based on
Cambridge Silicon Radios;

* Belkin F8T003v1 (Bluetooth 1.1)
* Macsense BT-100 (Bluetooth 1.2)

My tests were under Windows XP Pro SP2 on a ThinkPad T41 with the
Microsoft Bluetooth stack and tethered connection to a Motorola V551
connecting to Cingular EGPRS(EDGE) service using Dial-Up Networking.

The Belkin device was solid, maintaining a connection indefinitely.

The Macsense device made an initial connection, but then stopped
transferring data after 50KB or so of data transfer (even though the
connection was maintained).

Several tests yielded consistent results.

Moral: If you're having trouble with one USB Bluetooth adapter, try a
completely different Bluetooth adapter.
