Don't Want Cingular Service in Mexico

| I'll be taking a cruise soon that goes from Los Angeles
down to Ensenada, Mexico, and back. I have a Cingular
Nationwide Family Plan package with no roaming or long
distance fees. I do not have international service turned
on on purpose.
I'm wondering what will happen when I'm in reach of
Mexican cell coverage. Will my phone not work at all
or will it work and I'll be charged for roaming?
I'm hoping it won't work at all. This must be a
common issue for everybody who lives close to the
Mexican border.

The power switch will invoke the "won't work at all" mode very effectively.
Turn it off.

Not necessarily. Let's say I'm on the high seas off of
San Diego sipping a smooth one while making an important call.
I'd like to know what will happen. If I turn it off
then I'll never get to be a rock star.
