I know WiFi is available on most PDAs nowadays.
But are there any smartphones with this function?
Or am I just dreamin'?

Tmobile has the Samsung T-709 due out soon, very soon,it is being BETA
tested with UMA, Tmobile already has the SDA made by HTC (Cingular has the
2125 but they chose to order without the WiFi hardware.
NOKIA and Motorola also have phones ready for release. Do a boit of Googling
and you can find out more. Word of warning, battery life is not going to cut
it out of the gate. The Samsung T709 also comes without a Memory vcard Slot
or Bluetooth, very dissapointing for a phone that should plain out be a
technologically "more".

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for. Found on an Australian
site but used on Skype.

The T-Mobile SDA has WiFi, it's T-Mobile's counterpart to the Cingular
2125 Windows SmartPhone and it's one of the best phones T-Mobile offers
(I believe it's their best). For some reason Cingular (or HTC, the
2125's vendor) decided not to include WiFi in the 2125 model and
there's no way to hack it with a registry switch the WiFi radio isn't
in the 2125 hardware....

I came very close to becoming a T-Mobile customer over this as T-Mobile
has some awesome rebate incentives on the SDA, but in the end I decided
not to give up Cingular because I've had bad experiences T-Mobile's
service before.

The idea solution would be to buy a SDA unlocked (or have it unlocked),
if unlocked the T-Mobile SDA will operate on Cingular's network. EBay
has plenty.

I eneded up with the Cingular 2125 and while I can't use it with WiFi
access points, Cingular has a great deal on Internet data package
(MediaNet), $20/month over their high-speed EDGE network, which isn't
G3 but it's fast compared to everything I've used in the past. Of
course if you're on compus or live in a city filled with hotspots, it's
worth the extra to have a WiFi enabled phone and when the WiFi singal
is strong it's much faster than EDGE at it's best.

The Nokia 9500 has WiFi. So does the newer version of the 9300 (9300i?),
but it neither is available in the U.S. frequencies, so far as I know.

Wow, Thanks for all those responses. Didn't expect that many.

I know I'm being picky here, but I'd like a clamshell model. I like
not having to worry about a keylock. I actually have a whole list of
features I didn't mention.

SERVICE
whichever service cripples my phone the least. - cingular? GSM

NEEDS
Good call quality / Reception
MP3 player - Quality sound output
Memory expansion slot (miniSD)
Web access (citi maps, searches, weather)
Good internal display / modest external
Beefy (1000 mAh) Li-Ion Battery

WANTS
WiFi
Clamshell
Discreet antenna (no stubs!)
Customizable with software
Good Speakerphone w/o feedback or other quirks
Tetris!
outlook (or any email program that will sync w/ outlook mail, calendar
& contacts... i would settle for one that export to a csv or something)

The FCC approved, yet unreleased (i think) Motorola v361 satisfies all
of them but the WiFi, a feature which would save me airtime minutes
while browsing.

I've been looking around since February 06 when my sprint contract
ended; I've been very patient. I don't want to stay with Sprint
because they charge a lot for web access (don't even get me started on
their Vision service). Verizon's is cheap, but they cripple the phone
on you (v-cast bull).

I'm fairly sure my dream phone does not exist, and I was hoping to get
a new phone by next week when I go to Europe, but it looks pretty
grimm.

Any takers?
