One ring, then 10 seconds of silence, then voicemail
|
|
|
| There is a problem with my service and I'm curious if anyone else has or
does experience this.
If my phone is turned off or in an out-of-network area, when somneone
tries to call me, the phone rings once and there are 10 full seconds of
silence (no ringing or anything -- just silence for 10 seconds), then it
goes to my voicemail.
One of my friends told me and low and behold, when I tried to call my
phone while it was out of the network area, it would ring one time,
followed by 10 full seconds of silence, then to my voicemail.
This explains why people have been telling me in past months that they
can't get through to me or to my voicemail, unless they wait 10 seconds
after hearing just one ring.
Is this a known issue with Cingular and is there a known fix for this
problem?
Thanks for any help.

It happened to me about a year ago on both family plan phones; finally
cingular customer service had to reset something on their side.

Hi,
An FYI:
I have Sprint PCS and about 1/2 the time this also happens
to me if my phone happens to switch over into the Roaming
mode when going out of network.
A couple of friends of mine have Verizon and they also have
experienced this while in the Roaming mode.
So, I don;t think this is exclusively a Cingular phenomenon.

Try re-recording your outgoing message. It might have gotten deleted
from the system somehow.

This happened to me calling a Cingular number in NYC yesterday
(09/24/06). It happens both cell phone to cell phone and land line to
cell phone. I have not previously had it happen to me in calling this
number: 1 ring, extended silence, voice mail message.
