Cingular 8525 Contact/Calendar Issues
|
|
|
| I have a new Cingular 8525. I was told by the salesman I would be able to
remotely sync my Outlook email, contacts and calendar. I can access email
remotely, but can only sync my contacts and calendar via a USB cable and
activesync. My dsl provider is SBC Global. I can use Intellisync to sync my
contacts and calendar to SBC Yahoo mail so they can be accessed online. So I
could access it by going online, going to the Yahoo site, signing in, etc.
Not quite a simple as just clicking on the calendar icon on my phone. My
computer is always on. Is there something I'm missing that would allow me to
also remotely sync up my contacts and calendar? I've used their xPress mail
but it only syncs Outlook for corporate Outlook accounts. It seems that
there must be someway around this but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Correct- you can only sync calenar and contacts remotely if you use a
Microsoft Exchange Server (personal accounts run about $6/month from
companies like 1and1.com.)

No- MS rmoved the sync over IP function from Activesync 4.x as they
claimed it posed a "security risk" as the data transfer was unencrypted.

Nor has any other user of a Window Mobile 5 device. (WM5 devices, like
your 8525, only sync w/AS 4.0 or higher. Earlier WinMo devices can still
use AS 3.x which has sync over IP functionality allowing you to sync
remotely with a PC.)
