renew Cingular contract

| I think I'm going to renew my Cingular contract. My
current Cell phone has seen its better days ( Nokia 3595 ). I'd like
to get a better free phone and have narrowed it down to three choices:
Nokia 6102i, Pantech C300, or an LG cu500. Any experiences or advice
on any of these phones would be appreciated. TIA.

| I've got the Nokia 6102i and I do like it. I will not brag it up to be
anything spectacular.
I won't complain about reception. I did have a lot of trouble with it
in the San Luis valley in Colorado, but that is an area that is served
heavily by Verizon. I won't blame the reception troubles I had on my
phone, rather on Cingular's lack of towers/service. I've read other
reports that the 6102i has pretty good reception.
The color screen on the 6102i is pretty good. A lot of cheaper econo-
phones have much grainer looking screens than the 6102i. The
brightness is very good, even outside.
The bluetooth works well. If you already know how to run a Nokia phone
(and it appears that you do), this one is comfortably the same as
other Nokias, which is likely both good and bad.
The camera is a disappointment. Don't buy it for the camera. It
doesn't have any music player either.
The email and web features leave a lot to be desired. I've tried
nearly every email option there is with this phone and they all are
lacking. If you really want to do email, consider a smartphone.
The 6102i can be tethered to your laptop and used as an EDGE modem. It
may be outside of Cingular's terms of use but I'm just saying that it
can be done. You will want to have at least the $20 Unlimited Media
Net plan to avoid excessive data charges. EDGE doesn't appear to be as
fast/consistent as Verizon's National Access. My own experience has
been that while moving in a car my data speeds often drop down to 15K
to 30K, instead of the 120K you can get while parked in a good service
area.
I have never had the volume troubles that some complain about. I do
not use my 6102i in any noisy environments. It's loud enough to use
while driving.
The size of the 6102i is nothing outstanding. I do carry mine in my
pocket but it could be a little smaller/thinner.
The battery life is good enough for me. You'll find that using
bluetooth and/or EDGE will drain the battery quicker. Also, leaving
the phone on in a non-service area will drain the battery pretty
quick. Compared to my buddy's RAZR, my battery lasts about twice as
long. I charge it every night and have only had trouble on the days
where I forgot to charge it.
The 6102i will not accept standard corded headsets so you will
probably be best off using a bluetooth headset. Some complain that
bluetooth headsets let in too much surrounding noise since the
microphone isn't right up by your mouth.
The 6102i won't attract much attention, just yawns.
I have never had any warranty or repair issues with my 6102i. The
software seems very stable.
I cannot tell you anything about the other phones mentioned. If you
are somewhat of a Nokia fan, you will likely be happy with the 6102i.
If you aren't real technically savvy and don't really like change, I'd
be a little careful about buying another brand of phone. While they're
all made to be simple to use, you will find yourself saying, "On my
Nokia 3595 I would have just..." What you get accustomed to using is
what you will probably like.
I think the other two phones you mentioned are more advanced and/or
more fashionable phones than the 6102i.
Good luck!

If you are willing to spend a few bux, not talking alot, you may want to
consider the Cingular Sync (Samsung) or the Sony Eric Z525a. I'd play with
them all before I made a choice.

Better yet, no contract and a $30 Go Phone. Use your existing SIM.
