Author Any way to delete the marketing crap from my new phone?

I just got a new cingular sync cell phone. I like it but it has a lot of bs
in the main menu. First on the list is "Cingular Mall". It also has Media
Net, Cingular Video and Cingular Music. I see all this as a ploy to try to
get me to buy extra crap that I don't need or want. Also, there is many
entries in the address book that I can't seem to delete like directory
assistance, Music ID and Pay My Bill and Voice Connect.

I admit I'm a control freak and want complete control over my phone. How can
I remove all of this?

You'd need to reflash the rom (if possible) with a generic version for
that model of phone. Alternatively buy a nonCinular "unlocked"
phone from ebay or someplace like:

http://www.sellyoularphoneco.com/servlet/Categories

In the meantime, call 611, and have them turn off txt and data on your
account, so you can't accidently get charged for any of those items
you have no interest in. Also if you don't use it, have them block
International calling.

Too many horror stories of folks losing their phone and having a $8000
bill for calls to Guatemala.

Yeah, my complaint as well. I disabled my data and text. You can't
delete the address book things, I was able to on the Sony Ericsson.

Sign up with Verizon. They're offering a "30-day test drive" so you can try
them out for up to 30 days and then terminate. After 30 days with a Verizon
phone, the crapware in Cingular won't seem nearly as bad.
