Quality, no frills GSM phone
|
|
|
| I'm looking for a no frills, good quality phone for use on the Cingular GSM
network in St. Louis. I don't need a camera, broadband, websurfing, a razr
or flip, email, etc. I only want a phone that will give extended range and
a little more muscle in transmitting power then a flip phone. Cingular
doesn't really offer anything with more muscle so I'll need to find
something on the OEM market.
Any suggestions.

It is my understanding that the FCC strictly limits transmitting
power, so you WILL NOT find any legal cell phone with extra
transmitting power.

Every time I've read a thread on range, somebody has ranked Nokia candy bar
phones near the top.
I've had a half-dozen different Nokia candy bar phones and my favorite is the
6160.

Nokia 6130 is the clear and obvious choice.

|
| Is this a discontinued model? The closes model is the 6133 on the Nokia
website.

What makes you think a flip phone has any less range than a non-flip
phone? Several Cingular flip phones have excellent range, notably the
new RAZR V3xx, which outperforms Nokia handsets in my tests.
If you want more range than that, Motorola makes a GSM "bag" phone.
