One Phone Switched This Morning
|
|
|
| I bought a new KRZR K1 yesterday. Until this morning, it showed
Cingular on the screen. This morning it shows AT&T. Our V557 is
still showing Cingular. Perhaps a difference in the SIM card? The
SIM in the KRZR is printed Cingular 3G.

Depends on the phone. Some phones pickup the alpha tag from the SIM.
Others have it stored in phone firmware.

Other phones can even get the tag from the tower. These are common
in China. China SIMs are usually charged differently depending on
whether the phone is being used in its "home" area or somewhere else,
so the towers typically broadcast an alpha tag which includes the area
so you can tell what you'll be charged.
One US phone I've had was capable of displaying those tags from the tower,
though I can't remember which.
