Voicemails that get lost in space..and then return

| Understanding that all things are digital and a voice mail is much like a
e-mail anymore, this one is a bit odd and I was just wondering if other
people have seen it and how maybe it happens.
My Girlfriend was calling a Dr. office back in the middle of April to get a
appointment change, the scheduler said they would call back to confirm. We
never heard back from them. The GF had called back later and got the info
anyways.
Now here it is May 28th and out of the blue we hear the phone beeping and it
indicated that there was a voice mail (but no phone call). When we listen to
the voice mail, it's pretty obvious that this message is from back in April
as she's calling to confirm the Appt on April 18th and the Cingular voice
says that the message was left on, April 15th.
She uses the phone pretty much every day, So it's not like it's been
sitting in the corner for the past 40 days. I'm assuming this is pretty
rare. But now we have to wonder...how rare is it ?

I had the same thing happen with a couple of text messages last fall. A
woman I was after sent me a two messages I didn't get, things between us
went downhill after that. She obviously didn't believe that I didn't get
them. After I no longer had a chance, about three weeks later( the morning
of the daylight savings time change) both messages came through at 2:38am.

That's the risk one takes when one depends on technology to do something
they ought to be doing face to face.

I was asking if I could pick something up for when we met face to face.

I had problems with my VoiceMail, and called up high honchos at
Cingular, and when I got no adequate explanation, demanded
compensation, which they reluctantly provided. Don't ask us,
ask your Regional VP.

| Well, in this case, I'm not really complaining, just wondering if anyone has
had such problems. As far as we know she's gotten all of her voicemails to
date, this so far is just a 1 time issue. I'm kinda curious how a voice mail
gets lost in space. Especially, since she's had voice mails since then.
If this happened more often, then I would be concerned. But 1 time (though
it was somewhat important) is more of a head scratcher.

My guess is someone ran a monthly system maintenance program that,
probably along with other things, found a miss-assigned message and
figured out where it was supposed to go. Gotta remember these messages
are just files on a hard drive(s) being manipulated by software that can
have bugs and glitches--I?m surprised there is not more "sharing" than
there is. Good thing it isn't running Windows :)
