Tethered 3G vs DSL?

| I'd like to eliminate my landline/DSL because I now have a 3G-capable
phone and I live in a 3G area. I'd like to tether my mobile device to
my home PC for most of my browsing and email. Currently I have a
middleweight DSL plan (32.99) which usually gets around 1000-1200 kbps
test scores.
I know I'm going to sacrifice some speed, but wonder how much I will
really notice it. I use the net mostly for email and simple browsing,
although I occasionally download, plus I use Napster for listening to
music.
If I drop DSL and landline and go exclusively 3G, I'll just about
break even. If I chose the 59.95 tethered plan, will everything I need
to tether be included or will I need to buy additional hardware?
Any other issues such as latency and download interruption for me to
worry about?
Any advice from those who have taken the plunge? I'd really like to do
some on-the-go internet usage but not at double what I'm paying now.
If I don't lose a lot of speed, I might go for it, but it's it's
substantially different, then I won't. I guess I need some calibration
as to what getting 200 - 300 less kbps will mean in real terms.

You're all set.

If you're getting HSDPA, both latency and speed should be good.

Works great for me.

It's not quite as snappy, but still pretty darn good, way better than
dialup or ISDN.
