Author Generate a "Nokia Smart Message" w/iMelody and email to Mot. C139?

The user manual for my Cingular/ATT Motorola C139 says it can extract
iMelody and vCard content from "Nokia Smart Messages", but I'll be
darned if I can find any info on how to generate these Smart Messages so
they can be sent to the phone.

I'm just assuming that if such a message could be created on a PC it
could then be emailed to the phone.

Am I even close?

Any help?

The Nokia specification is available from
http://tinyurl.com/3bfagr

If you download, unzip and install
Smart_Messaging_Spec
ification_rev_3_0_0_
Installer.zip from that
page, you'll get the specification in PDF format. I'm not sure
how much help that'll be to you though. It's technical,
although you could conceivably construct messages "manually" on
the basis of that information.

I don't think you'd be able to e-mail the results to your phone.
As far as I'm aware, these are EMS (enhanced message service)
messages conforming to GSM 03.40, and there's a lot of bit
manipulation involved in constructing any sort of EMS message.
The message "text" has to begin with an encoded UDH (user data
header), and the UDHI (UDH indicator) bit needs to be turned on
within the message's PDU-type octet - far too much to ask of
any e-mail to SMS facility I'm aware of.

If you could construct a "smart message" on a PC, you might be
able to directly write it to your phone over a serial
connection (cable or Bluetooth) as an incoming message using
the "AT+CPMS" and "AT+CMGW" commands from GSM 07.05. Whether
the phone would then successfully act on the message's embedded
port addressing is another matter. Failing that, you could
just use your phone to send it to your own number
(self-addressing is legitimate in store-and-forward systems
like SMS).

Of course, there may be PC software which lets you compose such
messages via a user-friendly interface.

Thanks for the pointers and info.

It certainly looks like it's a lot more effort than I'm prepared to
expend just to play with a throw-away phone :-)
