| I have the Motorola tools for my RAZR and I am thinking about creating my
own ringtone from an mp3. But I haven't been able to find out how long it
should be. What makes my phone ring? Does it get a "start ringing now"
signal from the tower and then continues to ring every so often? Or does it
get a "ring now" signal from the tower every so often? I'm curious about
that. But what really matters is how long should/can my ringtone be? What
will happen if it is longer than the interval between ring signals?
Thanks, Bob

It gets a single ring command, and then plays whatever ringtone is
selected for a maximum of 30 seconds, until you either answer, the call
goes to voicemail, or is forwarded.

| On Cingular(=86) phones, the default ring
duration is 30 seconds. You can change
it by dialing a string in the format of
this example:
*61*17073010007**15#
..=2E.and then pressing SEND as though you
were making a call.
The 11-digit phone number in the example,
17073010007, is one of Cingular's many voice-
mail deposit numbers. You must substitute
the 11-digit VM deposit number for your
particular account. Cingular will probably
tell you the number if you ask; they told me.
The "15" in the example is the desired
ring-cycle duration in seconds. The only
acceptable values are 05, 10, 15, 20, 25,
and 30.
