Nextel is THE Sponsor of AT&T. Cingular was grandfathered in.
There is no Cingular anymore, AT&T wants cars it sponsors to now say
AT&T, Nascar says thats not in the contract.

Actually, it IS in the contract. AT&T's contract with NASCAR provides
for the change of the logo on the #31 Chevrolet. Nextel's contract with
NASCAR provides for exclusivity for competing telecomm sponsorships, but
granting exemptions to existing sponsorships like Cingular and Alltel.
All AT&T wants to do is paint a new logo on their car under their
existing #31 sponsor contract with NASCAR. However, AT&T's "new
company" marketing splurge creates a conflict with the exclusivity
clause between NASCAR and Nextel.
NASCAR would rather violate the #31 sponsor contract with AT&T in lieu
of the larger series sponsor contract with Nextel.
Lawyers and lunches. Gotta love em.
