Atrocious msg -> email speed

| At 7:10pm local time, I sent an email from my PC to my cellphone's txt
address. It showed up as a txt message within seconds. So far, so
good. At 7:13pm local time, I responded to it. I waited and waited
and the response never showed up.
Well, it finally did. At 9:04pm it landed on my mail server. Two
HOURS after sending it. It spent mere seconds going from my cellphone
to txt.att.com to cingularme.com, two hours on a cingularme.com server
(just one, no bouncing around the domain), and then directly to my mail
server and thence to my email client.
