Hating Cingular for various reasons
|

|
| Yesterday I posted a "Cingular haters" thread and got some interesting
answers to my query as to why people hated Cingular, not the least of which
is their misleading advertisements of outstanding coverage.
I work in the oil fields of West Texas and eastern New Mexico where coverage
is mighty slim or non-existent. Does anyone have a suggestion for a carrier
that does a good job of covering the more remote areas of the southwest?
I've been a loyal customer of Cingular for years but they don't really do
the job for which I pay them a large amount of money each month.
If y'all do suggest a decent carrier do you have a suggestion for what may
be a better phone? I currently have a RAZR V3 phone and I do like it but I
am willing to get another phone if one will be better than the V3.
Thanks for y'all's input.

So you are saying that the people complaining about coverage weren't
clever enough to look at Cingular's coverage map or that they looked at
it and the map lied?
As for what works well in a given area, why not just ask those around
you using their cellphones while you are on the ground there. If a
majority claim excellent coverage from XYZ CELL PHONES R US in a given
location it is fairly certain that your experience will be similar. Or
it will at least be worthwhile looking into their coverage in that and
other areas. Of course, I suspect that in really boondockish locations
there may not be good coverage from any cell carrier -- that is the
reason that satellite phones still exist.

| JFH, As John suggests check coverage maps for your area. All cell providers
are lacking in coverage somewhere. Take a good look at Verizon I have
several friends on Verizon along wih myself. I could not be happier. If you
buy a CDMA/AMPS phone you will get every ounce of coverage Verizon can get
you. RAZR phones by the way are strictly digital. I know a doctor in a semi
rural area. The clinic made her get on Verizon and purchase a CDMA/AMPS
phone becuase they have the best coverage. She told me to buy the Motorola
V325I. She wasn't wrong.
