Sure, but you know they didn't ship the same number to all of the
stores, right? Apple Stores got more than each of the AT&T stores did.
If there are ten times as many AT&T stores, but they get one-tenth of
the units at each, and everyone sells out, then each side did half the
sales.

Obviously, they'll count online sales -- there's no reason not to. And
probably, they have a lot that they didn't yet ship out. But I don't
know if Apple made arrangements for large numbers of outgoing units
during Friday and Saturday, let alone Sunday, so that first figure
could still end up close to the retail shipments.

Yeah, 'analysts' are making what are called 'gross estimates.' They
have no figures, and are using anecdotal data to inform a rough
estimation.
