I use an iPhone with Cingular. And what about entire phone calls? That
on the horizon? Seems like in this day an age phone calls could be
saved as sound files like e-mails.

I have no idea why ATT/Cingular doesn't offer web access to voice mail
so people could offload voice mails (for a fee of course :)--the VM
system in DFW sounds like an Octel system and they've had web access
ability for years. Maybe ATT is still consolidating to one system.

Until then you can easily use conditional call forwarding (CF if no
answer, CF if busy etc) to send a caller to a third party voice mail
system instead of letting it go to the ATT system. From the web page you
can listen to the message, delete it, save it or download it to your
computer to archive it.

I use Accessline.com (who offers local numbers with no charge per call)
and had Cingular turn off the VM on my account so if I don't want calls
going to VM at all I just turn off forwarding. Some others are:
ureach.com, callwave.com, ringcentral.com and probably many others. A
plus for these services is that you can receive and view faxes also.

You can use GotVoice which saves your voicemails as wave files on their
servers and sends them to you in email.

I don't believe GotVoice works with a Mac for some reason.

If your iPhone is jailbreaked you can easily save the voicemail files. I
have even tested a script that emails me (from my iPhone) all my voicemail,
camera, photo and SMS messages.

But if you just want to grab email, copy the voicemail files to your
computer from this directory on the iPhone:
/var/root/Library/Voicemail

The amr files can be play and converted in QuickTime.

If you are on a PC the easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone is with iBrickr
(don't get scared by the name, it won't brick your iPhone):

On a Mac you can use Breezy:
http://code.google.com/p/pxl/

Both will allow easy app installion on the iPhone too.

No, he wants a live Call recording app like some Nokias come with, to
record and save a call he's taking- not saving a voicemail.

Before you go correcting, read the subject line. The first question, and the
one I replied to was in the subject line. The part about entire phone calls
was apparently secondary. I can do that do, with VRecord.

Fair enough, but you quoted his whole post, so you either missed his
second question or ignored it!

I took it as a compound question, since it was his second sentence in
the post (the first identified his phone and carrier.)

There, was that so hard? ;-)

Now he has a complete answer!
Sorry if my last post came off as snarky- I figured if anyone here
knew if any call recording software was available for iPhone yet,
it'd be you, so I was frankly surprised you blew off the "secondary
question" without at least a "sure, look for such-and-such" or a "not
yet".

Have a good one!

Yea I kind of ignored it since he seemed to want to save all phone calls.
Didn't really seem practical yet, but the voicemail files are already
sitting there and are easily copied.

> Sorry if my last post came off as snarky

Nah, you were fine. I overreacted (fired that response off as I was headed
out the door).

That's so nerdy. :-)
