Motorola Inc's strategic review is focused on creating value for its
money-losing mobile phone division, with the aim of bringing about a
"product-led" recovery, a company strategist said on Monday.

"We're going to be expeditious about our review," Motorola's senior
vice president for corporate development and strategy, Don McLellan,
told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the Mobile World
Congress in Barcelona.

"The market had dramatically undervalued mobile devices. That was a
concern to us," he said, adding, "We know it can regain market
leadership."

If they sold the mobile devices business, what would be left of Motorola
anyway?

They also recently bought a controlling interest in Vertex Standard.

Most of the company. Motorola has huge contracts with government and
industry and always has. When they dumped the consumer radio business many
years ago, it didn't hurt the investors at all, just shed a white elephant.
Motorola is a massive company outside the Sellphone business.

Every cop, fireman, ambulance driver, etc., in the country is carrying
around a $4000 Motorola Trunk Radio walkie talkie you can drive the
squadcar over without leaving a scratch. The trunk equipment it all
connects to is Motorola. Cop radios have been Motorolas since they changed
the name from Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, which started in 1928.

It's not Apple Computers....more like IBM or General Motors of the radio
biz.

Look down at stockholder equity. '05 started out at $13B. By Jan 1, 2007,
it had SWELLED to $17B.

2006 2005 2004
Retained Earnings 9,086,000 5,897,000 1,722,000

Motorola is hardly starving.....(c;

It's not about selling SELLphones.

Thats because They have not begun or even announced closing Mobile
devices. If they do it will take years to do and during that time
they will be convieniently "backfilling" jobs with cheap new hires
hungry for any job :) I know I'm a casualty of the 2007 layoffs :(

Sorry you lost your job, Kevin. I bought 2 Motorola phones and tried to
save it, but they've both been replaced under warranty, so Batwing hasn't
made any money wtih the returns and all....

I tried, though.

Next time I want a Nokia....
