Author Suggestion/Recommendation needed for new phone (Upgrade)

I just qualified to upgrade my phone but confounded by all the
choices. I now qualify for $100 discount off an upgrade but keep
reading on the net that it is best to buy thru an independent dealer
rather than the Carrier.
Should I renew for 2 yrs and if so which would be the best phone
choice for me?
I commute between NY and AZ so roaming is essential (especially since
I'm a flight attendant). I average under 200 mins/mo and I'm currently
on a family plan as I got my mom a phone on my account.

I don't want to pay for extras but don't mind having the technology
eg: I have no plans to pay Verizon to take/send photos but having a
camera could come in handy if I were to be kidnapped and stuffed in a
trunk...so camera is optional. I don't know if I'd spend the extra
cash to buy a Plantronics Discovery Bluetooth headset but the
futuristic blade-runner-ish look has some appeal...so bluetooth is
also optional.
What I'd really like to do is access email for free but alas I think
that's a pipedream so keeping those points in mind which would be the
best phone for me right now. I prefer to budget a max of $200 after
the $100 discount offerred by Verizon. The less I have to pay out of
pocket, the happier I'd be.
My current phone, the Motorola T730 is just OK. It never rings long
enough or loud enough for my liking.
Any suggestions or recommendations appreciated.
Cheers,

I have a Motorola E815. You don't need to subscribe to the Vcast this phone
offers, but the sound and speakerphone is great. RF coverage is about the
best I've had in a phone, and I've owned many. The camera is ok as far as
camera phones go, not as good as a regular camera though. Info at this site
shows how to setup the phone for free picture messaging (for V710 & E815).

Verizon Wireless allows you access to your Hotmail. You can do the
$4.99/mos mobile web and it just deducts minutes, or setup the alternate
servers per the link above to by pass the $4.99/month charge.

The Motorola 710 is still available online or may still be available
in some stores. Having a phone with analog capabilities might be
needed in some places in the western states. As it has been generally
discontinued the sale price is excellent. Online it includes the
bluetooth headset.

Another possibility for you is the Motorola V276. It has analog as
well. Both phones have good reputations especially for reception. They
both have excellent speakerphones which I find useful.

As another poster mentioned, the Motorola 815 is a good phone as well
but does not have analog.

a moto v710 would be a good choice if you are unhappy with your
current phone.

- it is tri-mode which means that in areas that are still analog-only
you'll still have coverage

- it has an OK camera but i bought my phone to make phone calls, not
take photos.

- it is bluetooth enabled which means you can get your
blade-runner-ish headset

- i got a pair from verizon for $49.95 each with a 2-year plan

as for e-mail access there are ways to do that with the only cost
being minutes-of-use. suggest you navigate over to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/InternetByCellPhone/. that group will
show you how to connect to the internet with your phone for e-mail and
more. there are several tutorials in the files section of that group
which are a must read.

also, check out www.phonescoop.com for information and specs on ALL
wireless phone.

good luck.
