Broadband options?
|
|
|
| I currently have a Samsung i700 I use as my phone and laptop modem. I also
have the "unlimited PDA" addon so I can use it without impacting my minutes.
It works fine but this phone does not have EV-DO, and broadband is now
available here and many places - and I'd like the increased speed.
I guess I could get a PC 5740 but I'd rather have a "normal" phone I can
tether to my laptop.
Which, if any, phones can be used for a broadband modem?
Anyone already been down this path?

| You might want to check out www.howardforums.com. There is plenty of
info there about "tethering" broadband phones. However, VZ does not
allow EV-DO access using minutes (read the t's &c's). However, it can
be done at your own risk using an E815. Rumor is that EV-DO phones
will be allowed to be used as modems next year for the same 59.95
charge.

My Motorola e815 receives EVDO quite nicely - via bluetooth on an Apple
iBook and via cable on a PC notebook.....
Instructions are easy to find:

Actually, you can use EVDO only being charged for minutes now....
When I "upgraded" to mine, they said "no-go", but when I persisted and
reminded them that I was a long time user, they "found" an exception
that permits this
"premium service" to be added at their discretion for "preferred
customers".....
Insist, talk to a supervisor if you need to - it can be done....
By the way, it works fine.....

| If you use the EV-Do network it's going to cost you more. Your old PDA Mins
wont work with EV-DO network. They will charge you.
I know, I asked. As I have the same plan.

I have a PDA phone (XV6600). Unlimited Broadband/National Access is
$4.99/month. I am currently connected over EVDO.

I can hear the callers now:
"But the $4.99 plan was posted anonymously on a Usenet group! How can it
be wrong? It was on the Internet!"
