Author getting new plan via amazon and canceling exising plan?

My contract with VZW ended quite sometime ago. I was thinking of
signing up for a new VZW plan (1 yr) via Amazon so that I get a good
deal on a phone, cancelling my existing contract, and hopefully switch
my existing # to the new plan. I wasn't 100% certain that I could pull
off the switching # part but I thought the other portion would be easy.
However, there is a post on the T-mobile forum indicating that this
does not work (the rebates would not be honored since I'm not switching
providers). Does anyone know if this is possible?

Sorry, didn't read the other thread. Here is what's likely
the deal: The Amazon offer is for *new* service. You
won't qualify as a *new* customer until some period of
time after canceling your current service (6 months?).
Not sure if you switched carriers and ported you number
but that would sort of negate any sort of deal wouldn't it.

thanks... no, i didn't switch carriers ... still with VZW. I guess the
only way to get a new VZW phone would be to use the new every two deal.
