Author OS X driver for LG VX6100 with data cable and Bitpim

I have a Verizon LG VX 6100. I want to load the photos and contacts
from it onto my computer. I have a data cable and bitpim 0.8.04 on Mac
OS 10.4.3. I've set the com port and phone model manually from the
bitpim preferences, but it won't detect the phone. When I tell it to
detect the phone, it says "Phone detection in progress" in the status
bar for a few seconds and then says "Phone Detection Failed - No phone
detected/recognized". I am plugging the phone strait into the USB
without a USB hub. I've tried it on both my PowerBook laptop and my
desktop G5. I've heard that you need a driver to do this, but I can't
find one anywhere. Is this what the problem is, and if so, where can I
find a driver? I often get "Google-it" responses on here, so heres the
Google search that I did:
